When budgets are tight we get asked this question a lot and for most businesses the answer is fairly simple.
Whatever channel you use, regardless of its cost, if your planning and execution is off you are throwing money away, which is why every marketing communication should be born from a strategy and objectives that are deep rooted in the business.
Simply throwing £250k at a TV ad or even £200 at a Facebook ad could have little difference if the planning and execution is off. Clearly defining your target audience (ie. your customers), profiling how they think, feel and spend is crucial to the success of any campaign.
A well planned marketing strategy combined with the right creative execution and mix of channels will have ten fold the results of a campaign that hasn’t considered that process.
However, back to the point in question, if everything else is in place what channels truly deliver the best bang for their buck are, in our experience:
1) Website – and not just any website. A well designed, optimized, engaging content rich site that ranks well. Despite the heavy initial outlay, once the site is earning its keep it’s by far the most cost effective means of generating new business.
2) Email marketing – without good data and an engaging website email marketing won’t have the desired impact. But get it right and the cost and speed of delivering a message to the masses is unparalleled.
2) Social media – in our experience Facebook’s platform is the best social channel there is to deliver ads to thousands of tightly targeted prospect customers, but it does depend on your audience.
So there it is, our top 3 most cost effective marketing channels – but don’t forget, regardless of the channel it’s all about the execution and planning and not all businesses will confirm to this model.
